About the Wa Rei Ryū

The Wa Rei Ryū (和礼流) is a martial art school and a cultural association founded in 1986 by the Ōsensei Francisco Royo and present in Spain, Switzerland and Argentina.

In 2011 the Wa Rei Ryū Switzerland is created in Lugano, in the form of the dōjō Ketsui (決意), becoming the first school in Ticino to teach kenjutsu (剣術) and battōjutsu (抜刀術), the traditional martial arts more closely related to the Japanese sword in all of its forms.

A few years later, one of its menbers get the permission to open a new dōjō in Romandy (French speaking part of Switzerland): that's how in 2017 the dōjō Jouen (情焔) in Lausanne it's born.

Besides the techniques specific to the Wa Rei Ryū, those of the Hyōhō Niten Ichi Ryū Miyakawa-ha (兵法二天一流) are practiced and taught as well ever since 1996, year of the training period of the Ōsensei in Uji (Kyōto) with Morito Miyakawa, responsible for one of the branches of this school established in the XVII century by one of the best well known samurai of Japanese history, Miyamoto Musashi.
A project for the exploration of the Bugei jūhappan (武芸十八般) is also ongoing.

Regardless of where its dōjō or its members are, the purpose of the Wa Rei Ryū is promoting the Japanese culture through the teaching of the art of the sword, the transmission of the principles of Bushidō, the practices stemming from (Sōtō) Zen, (...), and all of this with l'harmony (和) and respect (礼).
